Adult ADHD

Adult ADHD can affect people in different ways. For some adults, receiving an explanation for long-standing difficulties can provide a clearer understanding of their experiences and help identify appropriate next steps.

What is adult ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition. In adults, experiences can vary considerably and may involve difficulties with attention, organisation, time management, impulsivity or restlessness.

How can ADHD present in adulthood?

Some adults describe finding it difficult to maintain attention on tasks that do not feel immediately engaging, while others experience challenges with planning, organisation or managing competing demands. These experiences are individual and can vary across different areas of life.

  • Attention and concentration difficulties

  • Organisation and planning challenges

  • Managing time and deadlines

  • Restlessness or impulsivity

  • Feeling overwhelmed by competing demands

Why might ADHD go unrecog

Some people develop strategies that help them manage difficulties for many years. Others may notice challenges becoming more apparent when responsibilities increase during education, work, relationships or family life.

What happens during an ADHD assessment?

A structured assessment considers current experiences alongside developmental history and information about how difficulties affect everyday life.
